Shawn,

Sorry for the tardy reply, busy with work yesterday.

1. Lexmark Z52 printer
Like I mentioned at the meeting, you probably want to search through the
archives of any staroffice mailing list or newsgroup for printer tech
support questions. Another member on the list recently had a problem
concerning a Lexmark printer and solved it, though it wasn't associated with
Star Office. Since Lexmark is a spinoff of IBM, you might try finding out
what the similar IBM model is and checking to see if that model appears in
your list of printers for SO. Also, is there a postscript mode for your
printer? I'd be surprised if SO didn't support some basic postscript mode.

2. Netscape Mail

I suspect this is a netscape.com problem, since you don't mention that
general web browsing is not working. Pinging ok (ping home.netscape.net)? I
don't see how some config issue on Linux would affect this, but I've been
accused of dullness before. Somebody educate me.

3. Saving files to a floppy disk
I've had weird root and normal user problems before with SO and don't
remember if I resolved them or not. I haven't used SO in a couple of months.
I believe the problem is the result of how SO is installed, though I would
have to test it to make sure. In any case, Linux provides many ways to solve
this problem:
a. run SO as root (prb not safe)
b. give user write access to /dev/fd0 (prb what you want, look at
/etc/fstab)
c. set suid on the command that SO uses to save to floppy for user (um, prb
not practical)
d. figure out problem from source (left as exercise for the reader)

Does the same problem occur with the latest version of SO (6.0b?)?

Good luck!

John Hebert
