I have cox here in abbeville and i use the dynamic dns service from dns2go. They have a windows and a linux client and let you register a sub-domain with them for free (last time i checked). So if you had the client running, all you would have to do is ftp to mymachine.dns2go.com or ssh to whatevername.dns2go.com and not have to worry about the ip address (if you really need to know the ip just ping your domain name).
They even let you use a regular domain name that you may have already registered somewhere else with their service. So i can just ftp to melancon.org which is my linux box at home on cox's service running dns2go's client. And as a bonus, it is extremely easy to setup. (and extremely free!) http://dns2go.com http://dns2go.deerfield.com/ for some reason i'm unable to get to the dns2go.com site right now but my linux client is still up and running :) Adam J.
