John, I have a device called a "scan converter" basically this is VGA in from the computer and it outputs NTSC composite video & S-VHS and loops the VGA out to the monitor.
Working resolutions are up to 1600x1200 although small fonts are very difficult to read. It is 100% hardware and available to the BR group if you need it.
