Mandrake 8.2 should detect that you already have M$ Windows 2000 installed on your computer and install the boot loader appropriately. You can also choose not to install the boot loader at all and instead make a boot floppy to boot up Linux. Just make sure you do the "Recommended" install and you should be ok. Before you do anything, make a "Repair" disk for Windows 2000 in case you need to reinstall the M$ Windows boot loader. See your docs/Help for instructions. I've used BootPart (http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm) to reinstall my M$ WinXP NT boot loader after writing over it.
