i know of no problem with usb mouse and keyboard, under mandrake and suse at 
least... i think its more of a trick to set up if you are going to use a linux 
that doesnt autodetect all that for you (like debian, at which i just failed 
horribly).  i also think there is a site that should tell you if the board is 
completely linux compatible, but i cant remember it.   also, i have had 
problems with onboard sound, but not onboard video, but then, my computer is an 
old pos compaq
