my girlfriend actually had a cd writer under windows 98 on a 200 mhz with 32 megs of ram.. so it shoudl run just fine under linux, depending on speed and model. .you can always tell it to run at a lower speed, or if its a new one with the burn proof stuff.. that should work just fine too....
