I expect part of the project would be educating the IT staff (1 person)
about Linux, as well as providing resources to learn more (like a LUG
:). They do it now with Windows and one person, and there isn't a
problem keeping the machines running. If Linux is a viable alternative
(it is), then day-to-day maintenance will be just as easy. It was their
tech support to I spoke to, so I don't think it's a problem.
There will probably be some on-going help/administration involved,
probably including SSH'ing in to fix things as well as the occasional
visit to the location. That's why I'm calling upon the resources of the
group. I think most problems will be something that can be handled
during after-hours/spare time, but with good enough planning and
implementation I bet the system will be good enough as to be mostly
self-sustaining.

My concern is what kind of resources we have to dedicate to it.
Schools are high maintenance projects. Old hardware fails, and
students do not leave well enough alone. I think we would have to
have their current tech support on-board before it would be a sound
recommendation.
I just would hate to see us take too big of a bite and shoot
them and ourselves in the foot. Are they self-supporting, or are
they contracting for machines and support?
