I've got a lead on a job opening in Pineville (suburb of Alexandria). Th= e position is currently staffed by a contract that expires August 02. Th= ey're a large company with a small engineering team in Pineville. The pr= oduct is a panel-PC running Linux on Strongarm, embedded Qt, in-house app= for running warehousing hardware they produce. It's networked and custo= m built and really cool. The company is a Fortune 100 firm with an upstr= eam office in Pittsburgh and other offices all over the US.
The position is lead Linux admin, responsible for maintaining a developme= nt environment and CVS tree, doing some kernel compiling and tuning, and = setting up init and management scripts for a custom distro. It's practic= ally rolling their own distro, then maintaining it and supporting the pro= duct long-term. Some C++ or Qt dev will help, but it's not a requirement= =2E They want a permanent staffer, and the company's big enough to suppo= rt you in Pineville for YEARS. They've invested in the Pineville area, a= nd there's no intention to move that department. I'm looking out of state, and hoping to work in multiple platforms. I wa= sn't comfy moving to Pineville and working only in Linux, but it's a good= job in a good firm. Believe me, I agonized over this. I've got no prob= lem except that I've already set another long-term, multi-platform plan i= n motion. This is not that sort of beast for me. If you code a little a= nd write startup scripts a lot, this is great for you. I hope one of you= can take it. -j Recruiter: Steve Kavanagh Systems Pros Inc. 800-891-2255 x151 Position Summary The Systems Programmer/Administrator will be responsible for administerin= g and maintaining the Software Development environment, hardware and networ= ks.
