Well yes and no ... while Microsoft have a good chunk of the web
server market I don't think anyone would claim that they dominate it -
likewise the server OS market remains solidly UNIX based in spite of
years of Microsoft efforts. Yes, MS do sell a lot of systems but their
"domination" owes a lot more to savvy marketing and "perception" than
technical superiority or overall market share.

Microsoft are very good at selling their vision of their success - but
they have had a large number of failures too ... remember when MSN was
going to kill AOL? When was the last time you saw anyone using "BOB"
(the OS not a "battery operated boyfriend")? Can you honestly say that
they dominate a market when the most common comment about each new
Microsoft OS when it is released is "It doesn't crash as much as the
previous version." Microsoft looks good because they know when to bury
a dead dog ... before anyone else can smell it (for more like minded
thoughts try

I'd be very happy if Microsoft entered the Linux market ... hey maybe
they'd finally fix it so that XP-Pro works with SAMBA ... you gotta look
on the bright side.
