I have been running RedHat 7.3 for the past few weeks and I have noticed
something really really annonying.

While doing practically anything in X Windows, I notice that it will often
stop responding...err, only partially. The mouse will still move and the
buttons will depress when clicked but nothing will happen.

This lasts 1-5 seconds and then everything will resume back to normal.

I have gone to click the Gnome Terminal icon at the bottom of the screen.
I see it depress but nothing comes up. So I click a few more times. (All
in the course of about 2-3 seconds). Then a few seconds later, 10
terminals open simulaneously.

I realize the Gnome terminal isn't as compact as rxvt, but I noticed the
same problem with rxvt.

This things seems to happen at random intervals for random amounts of
time. I am running no other programs in the background when this happens.

I have a P3-450 Mhz, 256MB Ram, 40GB IDE Hard Drive. I am on a cable
modem (connected directly). I have all the 'lastest' updates from the
RedHat network. (If that is worth anything).

I hate to say this, but I admire the "crispness" of the Windows GUI, in
that as soon as you click, something begins to happen. I don't feel my
computer is so slow that the same shouldn't be on Linux. I thought Linux
would have had less baggage than Win2k.
