I've been thinking about the pros and cons of this for
a few days now.

Doesn't Mandrake have an option under M$ Windows to
verify the CD? Is this function open source? The
problem is that I haven't seen any tools under M$
Windows that can do something like: 'md5sum e:/' .

Any ideas?

I kinda agree with Dustin now, maybe it would be
better to create an actual CD or two and donate that
to some local public library. Having a CD in hand when
approaching the target library will make it easier for
them to understand what we are proposing. Besides,
accomplishing that goal will also take care of many
sub-goals: CD labels, choice of distros, what's
involved in donating CDs to public libraries, etc.
