I think there is a bug with the x configuration tool that creates this problem. I had the same problem at some point and after I used the ncurses version everything worked fine. I also had a problem where I could not find the boomerang nic module in the x config utility, yet, the ncurses version worked great. About the desktop, one of the greatest advantages of unix systems over MacOS and WindowsOS is that everything is built in layers. In a general sense you have the kernel, xwindows, window managers for the purposes of this argument. Therefore, if you can have great performance using Window Maker and not so great using KDE the problem my not be the linux kernel nor the xwindows system. In addition, there are other layers of sofware that could be causing the problem, eg.the WINGs library for Window Maker and the QT library for KDE. I know that the PowerPC version of KDE had a great deal of trouble with KDE3. Applications could take up to a minute to load. Apparently there was a bug in the newly released QT3 library. Linux is flexible, that is where the coolness come in. Linux can become something like windows or macintosh if you really want, the choice is yours. The opposite is not a choice. =C1lvaro Z=FA=F1iga www.hustler.com
