Just my experience with doings backups for small companies. If you just put it on another computer in the office and completely automate it, within a few weeks i guarantee they forget that they're even doing backups. Then someone needs that pc for something else... or moves it, changes ip address, replaces it, etc. In any event, make sure you setup scripts that email someone if the backup starts failing.
A few hundred bucks is not a whole lot of money for a small business to protect their data. But most of the time, the owner is very cheap with computer stuff. So use the DR approach... ask him what if this building burns down, all your computers are melted, and you need to setup shop somewhere else. THEN how much is this data worth to you? That's your budget for a backup solution. Backups need to go to tape, and it needs to be a routine for someone. The secretary (or whoever) needs to know, start the backup monday evening. Tuesday morning on your way to the bank, pick up the tape and drop it off in the safe-deposit box. -Ray -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ray DeJean http://www.r-a-y.org Systems Engineer Southeastern Louisiana University IBM Certified Specialist AIX Administration, AIX Support =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
