Hello Ed, all....

Ed, I have no intentions of going over to the dark side. :)

For the most part, I run a Linux shop. We have 40 servers and workstations.
Most these systems run Redhat, one is Irix, one is Solaris. Two of
our
desk top boxes are a flavor of a Micro$oft OS. Additionally, our
laptops
are dual boot systems. Until recently, these dual boot machine where all
configured as Win98 and Redhat systems. I now have dual boot Windows
2000/Redhat
machines. My bench marking is showing XP is a pig of an operating system.
Slower than 2000. It is the most amazing example of blot. Windows 2000 seems
to be more responsive and is more manageable than the XP home version.
This
is one reason I want to check out the XP Pro version. To check the
management
abilities. As time marches on more computer are being introduced into our
system with XP. Sooner of later, I will have to administer the XP OS. And
as always, having a little experience ahead of time make it easier to deal
with the problems that crop up. A little experience spread over time is
favorable
to a whole lot of experience in little or no time.

<RANT>
The topic if Microsoft XP OSI is some what off topic, It is really
a general
systems administration issue. It is difficult keeping up with every
aspect
of every OS, application, and such. But such as a day in the life. I offer
this for what little it's worth to other sys op's who run systems in a mixed
environment.
</RANT>

So any way, that is why I wanted to scope out XP PRO. But at $8.00 a copy,
you can't lose .
as I am now
able to do everything that I want or need to do from within
Linux, Crossover
Office and Win4Lin, and I am finding that I am using fewier
