[Warning: the following is pure opinion]

I feel that this topic is getting into a very interesting subject (for
me). That stated... I proceed.

I am mostly part of the younger generation, so I thought I would give my
observations, which tend to be more social than just saying "MS blows
goats."

I noticed that my generation has been put down a lot by the moral
majority and political elite. We were told how worthless we would
become, and how the older generation would dread they day they handed
the world over to us. There was nothing we could say, no option. As a
group, we had no power, our ideas rendered worthless by demeaning
elders.
But then came a way where we could gain power, a voice to be heard.=20
Through the anonymity of the net, we could be heard. We finally had an
outlet through which we could effect the global society. Some took the
responsibility well, learning all they could, others, perhaps through
lack of experience, became greedy (black-hat hackers and
script-kiddies). =20
We accepted anything that would pay attention to us. Open Source is
something that we can accept and can be accepted into.

Some say my generation lacks its "Vietnam". By that I believe they mean
more of a social or philisophical conflict rather than an armed one. I
believe they are also wrong. My generation is faced with a lot of
social and philisophical decisions now that the world is becoming more
of a global community. There is an entire generation of people with
nothing to put thier energy into except sociopolitical commentary and
action.

Maybe I am a romantic idealist, but I think (and hope for) another
philisophical revolution. It has been a long time since the world has
seen one, and the net seems like a good catalyst.

Seeing as how I am one of the youngest people on the list, I would
really like to know what everyone thinks. =20
