Does ssh have to be installed on the server/client/or both? You only need to have a server on one side and a client on the other and you can use retrieve or place the files with the commands put "this file" and get "that file" How would I connect to the server? sftp www.someserver.com or sftp 123.456.789.012 Would I have to use a dynamic dns service? not really if you can keep track of the IP address some how. What would the commands look like to do it? Would it be like ssh C:/sourcedirectory/filename name/dynu:C:/desitnationdirectory (if using Windows)? If you use windows you will probably use PuTTY and has a GUI so it will be somewhat familiar. You could also have Cygwin which is practically the same than the Linux version and not to many command switches are needed. If you go with Cygwin I suggest you run win2k because it is easy to get it going. Win98 takes a little tweaking and is not worth the trouble because Cygwin itself has some problems displaying the characters on the screen ( ncurses ). Sorry if it is a lot of questions, but it is something that I need to know. Not to many but a little reading on the howtos would answer most of this questions. In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Very thorough answer Will. You're a good mentor. In Debian, if he doesn't have SSH, he can get it via at-get ssh. I have no clue as to the redhat, or suse method for getting ssh. I think I am just going to quit answering questions until I see yours. You seem to think a bit more before answering than I do. It is probably something about getting old and crusty.` Doug --- will hill <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Most distros put both a server and a client on your > machines and an ftp client is part of it.
