If you're in redhat I think the openssh clients are installed by default, server is if you selected it during install, 'rpm -qa|grep openssh' to find out if any are installed.
Something like the following if everything is installed: openssh-askpass-3.4p1-2 openssh-clients-3.4p1-2 openssh-3.4p1-2 openssh-askpass-gnome-3.4p1-2 openssh-server-3.4p1-2 If its not installed: 1) if you have the install cds look for the openssh* rpms on disk 1 /RedHat/Rpms 2) if you do not have the install cds you can find the rpms at http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=openssh 3) configuration (changes to default /etc/ssh/sshd_config that I'd recommend) add line: Protocol 2 only allow connections from clients using ssh protocol v2, default allows v1 or v2 add line: PermitRootLogin no do not allow root user to login via ssh, default allows root to login James -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Doug Riddle Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2003 9:29 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [brlug-general] Re: "how do I transfer files to my home boxen onCox?" was RE: [brlug -gener... Very thorough answer Will. You're a good mentor. In Debian, if he doesn't have SSH, he can get it via at-get ssh. I have no clue as to the redhat, or suse method for getting ssh. I think I am just going to quit answering questions until I see yours. You seem to think a bit more before answering than I do. It is probably something about getting old and crusty.` Doug --- will hill <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Most distros put both a server and a client on your > machines and an ftp client is part of it.
