Talk to Ian or Sarah at the state library... we use linux and open source software for tons of different stuff here at the library. Maybe they can give a talk on it since they are just down the road.
Personally, here in vermilion parish, we have the secondary DNS server for lib.la.us running linux. I have a hacked K12LTSP terminal server setup and using it for card catalog terminals. The terminal server also pulls double duty acting as a pdf printer. ( http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue72/bright.html ) I'm running my personal as well as our library's web site on a linux box. The next version of our automation server is going to be on a linux server. On my laptop I have XP pro, but use Knoppix almost daily. I also run tons of open source software on my laptop such as: (let me think) Firebird, Thunderbird, BZFlag, Cygwin (full install), Xnview, vnc, jabber (Server is running on win2k server box), Dia, Ethereal, Gaim, open office 1.1, VideoLAN, and Qcad... there are probably others. I know for a fact that almost every main branch of the library's in the state are running linux boxes for their website (some may have switched over to IIS though) Here is the link to the computer staff at the state library. http://www.state.lib.la.us/TheLibrary/staff.htm#computer Adam J.
