I had to get special permission from the directorate of our project.

We already have a ton of Windows machines around here that I can use to 
troubleshoot.

You can pick up an eMac starting at $699 and an iMac at $1199.  Laptops 
start at $949.  These are with an educational discount (10-15%) which 
is really not that hard to get.  Otherwise, it starts at $799, $1299, 
and $1099 respectively.

Dunno... I am not much of a gamer.  The only games I play only run on 
Linux and Windows (MS Flight Sim, America's Army, etc...)  I find 
myself doing more real work with this laptop instead of being 
distracted by other junk, which to me is an advantage.  I always have 
my winblows box at home for the mind numbing junk.
