All I can say is that there was not a sushi chef within 6,813 miles (distance to Tokyo) who could even come close to me on Sunday. Nothing like sashimi from a fresh caught small tuna! Well... Bonito (AKA Blue Albacore AKA Little Tunny) anyway... Mmmm Mmm good! It was about a 14 pounder. Got the rest of him in the freezer. He made me work for it though, nothing fights quite like Tuna and all their cousins.
Anyone ever want to go one weekend, give me a shout and depending on the weather we'll give it a go. We caught a ton of Red Snapper but couldn't keep them since the season does not open till April 15th. Lots of snapper, black drum, white trout, trigger fish, etc. The real fun starts around April since the Mahi Mahi (dolphin fish) and Lemon Fish start coming in then. All in all it was a great fishing trip. The forecast looked terrible but it turned out to be one of the calmest days I have seen on the gulf. We only made it out about 18 miles though since we planned on heading in early (and then stayed because we were on the fish).
