with gentoo's USE="static";  compiling your editor should make it
portable(and huge).  If your CFLAGS variable uses march over mcpu then
the system your moving the binary to must be the same processor
sub-arch. You might need to override gentoo's CFLAGS setting when you
compile.

we don't need pity for useing a superior  editor.
can you do global search and replace on regexp's in gphpedit? how
about macros? shell commands? email?
vim does syntax highlighting too, and you can map a key to lookup php
function info.
vi | vim takes some getting used to but once you are used to it you
will be pressing keys in other editors before thinking, :wq
