This article describes a library in Maryland I believe that switched all of their computers to linux. I am very interested because i would like to do this with SLU's library. The problem is locking down my linux distro the same way I do with my Windows desktops. I recently setup a Suse box and locked it down to be used as a kiosk. Nothing fancy. I use Firefox as the default browser and found a site that shows how to block users from changing anything. That was the tough part. Then At every boot I delete the users home dir and reload it from a tar file. Also the user only gets the web browser. They have no KDE just a browser opens and if you close it it opens again. I am working on a document to describe the process step by step. But I got side tracked when I decided to try to remaster my own knoppix cd. Knoppix does things a lot differently than Suse. So I'm still trying to work out those details. I'll let yall know when I do. The guys in the article started with the Linux from Scratch project then created their own distro called LuMix. I'm going to request a copy of their cd! -- Brad Bendily - CNA/CLE Systems Administrator
