Who's pushing this nightmare? The person who gave me a paws account this afternoon told me it was a student senate initiative and that I should go read Reveille stories about it. What do they really want? Centralized resources is a nice idea but what do they want that the PAWS people can't provide? "Security" is about as nebulous a request as they come. Dennis, do you have answers to these questions? What meeting were you sitting in on? The message they need to hear is simple enough. Windows is not a standard. It's not easy and it will cost the University buckets of cash. There are better and less expensive alternatives. A quick demo of Mepis and an explanation of the terrible logistics of 20,000 laptops coming in from home to LSU's network each fall should be enough to get things on a reasonable footing.
