I've had some problems with a logitech wheel mouse.  It had a USB/PS2 
interface and sometimes would not come up with X.  The solution was to unplug 
the thing, plug it back in and restart X with ctrl-alt-backspace.  It's been 
a while since I've had that problem, but that might be because it's been 18 
days since I've booted my computer.
