I have seen bad CD drives make trouble with any software. I also have one computer with a faulty second IDE channel. If you have 96MB of RAM, you might be running out of memory, which happened to me on installation but not on run. Check out the output on virtual terminal 1 by pressing "ctrl-alt-f1" and see what kind of error messages you are getting. Also let us know what kind of hardware you are using.
