I don't know all the details as I have never done this at my house. But you would have to be running DNS at home and have your domain setup in your DNS. DNS isn't terribly difficult, but it is tedious to setup. It's hard to know exactly if you have it working or not, until it works. As far as what to tell your registrar you would login and change where the DNS entries for your domain point to. Right now there is some IP addresses in there. You would change the IPs to the machine at your house. The only problem with this is that if your IP at home ever changes then you'd have to go change the registrar. Sometimes it takes a few days for the changes at the registrar to populate. Which is another pain in the butt! As far as DIY, I like to do a lot of things myself. I love getting my hands dirty learning different concepts/technologies. But I have never had a reason or desire to host my own web server at my house. I actually do have web access to my house, I have a netstorage server running where I can access my files from anywhere. It's on a different port because cox is blocking 80. I didn't setup netstorage just for web access, web access happens to be a side effect that I rarely use. But it's nice to have if I need it. At the moment my site is hosted at a great place free of charge, but if I had to I would refer back to this thread to find a good place to host it, and I would pay someone else. It's just easier that way. Getting apache installed and running isn't much of a challenge any way. Also, there's no guarantee that a box at my house will stay up and running, but a web host will keep their stuff running. I don't think everyone on the list is here for the pure DIY mantra. For me, I started on the list to absorb what I could. If I never made a post I can still learn from the things I read. Even if I never used the software in question. However, it seems that the newbies don't feel they can ask questions because they feel their questions are trivial or inconsequential. I don't think they realize that we're not here to ridicule but to help a fellow linuxer in any way we can. Sometimes I guess it doesn't come out that way, but we don't mean no harm. ;) I hope anyone with questions or comments feel free to ask or express their views here in this forum. That's what we're here for. As long as they pertain to Linux or just seem like they do! Just my 2 cents... BB
