I use nano/pico as well. This probably is because all I ever really do is edit
config files, and I generally slog through sh*t pretty slowly. Im sure if I
worked on linux enough to where I was all about optimizing my time, IE my
fingers never leave the keyboard, I would use vim or emacs. I spent a day or so
trying to learn vim based on the "Its installed everywhere" maxim. It was just
so counter-intuitive to me I couldnt do it. Emacs I find a bit better, at least
I can open a file, edit it, then save it. For me, pico is best becasue well, it
does what I need it to (which really isnt that much". I would think that if I
had a job where I had to do shell scripts every day, I would probably make the
switch to emacs and take the time to train myself.

By the way im out of here punks, my move to the bay area is final (apt key in
pocket). If anyone has a line on a job out there, pass it my way please. Ill be
living on my sailboat in new orleans for the next month or so, but i have
wireless there so should be checking the ol email.

Peace
Chris

I'll just say that I've never met a person who really knew how to use vi
and still hated it.

You can learn the basics of vi, and get it doing everything pico/nano
does, in about 15 minutes. In pico i'm constantly banging on the
arrows, backspace, or ctrl-[kvy]. In vi, my fingers never leave the
keyboard. For me, it's a much more efficient tool for getting the job
done. I suspect that's why a lot of us use Linux in the first place.

My vote goes to joe (guess it's a write in since I haven't seen it mentioned
in the thread), must be a throw back to my first job as a programmer, we had
to use a dos based Wordstar editor so I don't think I'll ever forget the
ctrl-k sequences...

Must say vi has saved my but a few times - had to learn it for the dumb
terminals on the pyramid systems at USL, glad I knew it for those times I've
been on machines with nothing else, but I agree ancient and cryptic.
Haven't used vim, nano or pico very much so I can't really comment on them -
joe has everything I need.
