What is your total recuring monthly costs with this setup? Cheaper than something like Vonage?

i got back to looking at it, upgraded asterisk to 1.8.1,
then applied this patch from svn:

svn checkout http://svn.asterisk.org/svn/asterisk/branches/1.8 chan_gtalk.c
cp chan_gtalk.c/channels/chan_gtalk.c ~/asterisk/channels/
cd ~/asterisk
make
make install

based off this piaf forum post:
http://pbxinaflash.com/forum/showthread.php?p=55137#post55137

and now my google voice calls work like a champ.
i'm sure my configs are inefficient and could be tweaked, but they
work, so i'll leave it as is.

piaf has so much loaded on top and I wanted just the asterisk phone
calling part, which is
why i started with piaf, to get it working then wanted to move it to a
linux box I already had
running. so far so good. the piaf configs have so many additions, it
was really hard to compare
that to a standalone option.

Hostile. Books are the best source, sadly, but the 1.8 book won't be out until
Spring. Wiki.asterisk.org is a good reference, though.

Has anyone been playing with asterisk lately?
Have you setup the google voice through asterisk 1.8?

i used the nerdvittles, PIAF, then installed a standalone asterisk and
moved my configs to that.

It was working pretty well until around Dec 1. then it seems that
google changed something
so outbound calls weren't working.
That has been fixed now, but i have yet to apply the fix on my setup.

just curious if anyone else has been using this? I don't have much time
using asterisk and to get the standalone version working i've just been
making wild random
changes when i find something, and somehow got it to work.
