Makes sense.  Thinking in terms of the 3 levels of a DBMS
(view/logical/physical), the representation of data types shouldn't vary
from OS to OS, it should be handled by the database/client library/ODBC
driver itself.

On the upside, at least you didn't have to go around chasing queries and
look for bugs in a vendor's code.
