Cox Cable is proud of their internet services to say the least. They by far have the highest cost for Cable internet than any other Cable Provider. We use Comcast, TW Cable, Bright House Cable and Charter. We opened a new office just last year with a $99.00 10X2. But once you have been with them they like to jack the account way up. So leave go get a month to month DSL and then switch back as a new customer. That is a pain I know. Over all the least expensive service has been with Charter for $125.00 for a 50X5Mb connection in Birmingham. Highest is here with Cox. Comcast is in the middle.
Also two other notes. Be very wary of Cox's Phone lines. Up in Oklahoma late last year our location up there lost phones for 4 days and there was no forwarding of calls available. Cox lost their entire Switch up in Oklahoma due to some type of equipment failure. Talk about a nightmare.... So be warned about Internet companies trying to be phone companies..... 2nd on Eatel that someone mentioned earlier. I am sorry but you cannot trust those guys yet. We used to use them 9-10 years ago great service and customer support. However now as they reenter the Baton Rouge market they are not trust worthy. Basically they announced they would start providing service to the Industrialplex area in Baton Rouge. We had a quote and just waiting on the paper work for Fiber to our 3 different offices in this area. Site surveys had been done the sales person said they would be hot in less than 90 day's. Come to find out that very weekend after I had told them to send the paperwork Eatel made a 180 degree turn and said no we are not going in to the Industrialplex area period. In the meantime their sales people were misleading to say the least and signing up customers... -----Original Message----- From: General [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Edmund Cramp Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2013 8:22 AM To: '[email protected]' Subject: Re: [brlug-general] Phone service in Baton Rouge A T1 at 1.5Mb for $300 when I can get that with a DSL line for $45. Sure the uplink is lower but with two or three DSL lines I'd get much faster down and fasten enough uplink for half the price. Plus a bit of redundancy... I've used DSL, Cable and ISDN (and modems from 300 baud upwards) over the years and found that with some care they are all reasonably reliable - DSL is probably the best bang for the buck these days if you're a business with moderate needs, cable is nice but they hammer you on the cost versus what they offer home users - our cable bill was $240/month for 3Mb/500kbs and that was their "special offer rate" set to increase when our contract ended. As for DSL versus U-verse ... it's just a rename of the same service in most cases, a 5Mb stream will handle one movie/TV stream no matter what the sales folk claim. And fibre? yes, we've heard of it but the last I heard our local monopolies didn't think that there was a market for it.
