AGES ago (~2002), I was running a project that used the openapi.org which is the RCP part of NetBeans. At that time, we had a job that downloaded the nightly builds to be tested and incorporated into our continuous build. The nightly, compared to source tree, had the advantage of being tested before published. If test failed, there were no build (IIRC).
So, "developers" could be broader, but that is potentially always the case "pull from source tree"...
