I really have to go with saleh on this one...

True that pointers are a great asset once you know how to utilize them fully, but not all applications need that. For GUI based desktop applications i REALLY prefer using Java over C (actually i don't even consider C). But when you want to implement some system level stuff like an operating system or a kernel, it is obvious that C is far better than Java.

The author -like saleh said- really wants everybody to be superiour programmers and rocket scientists. However he forgets the point that if there are no bad programmers, then there definitly no good programmers, You NEED bad people in any and all businesses so that the good people would be valued. As they saying goes: "It takes all kinds to make the world" (of programming)...

One good thing though is that he didn't mention .NET (or did he? i got bored half way through), which hopefully means that it is too stupid to consider and not that it is hard enough to be an equal to C :)...

I do agree on the bit addressing the fact that CS teaching standards are not
what they used to be.. sad but true. However, i think the writer is
overdoing it.. its plain to see that he's an idealist.. if not from context,
his choice of words bluntly shows it.. Not all CS students  are supposed to
be rocket scientests.. and after all.. its not like the market demands them
to be anyway.. Commercial software will be written by comemrcial CS
professionals.. cheap software will be written by cheap professionals.. and
good software too will be written by good professionals.. theres an audience
and a demand for each of these categories.. and to me (at least), that more
than justifies their existence.
