Seems like there are lots of strong opinions on how J should be presented. J has added support for UNICODE as well as anybody else has as it was easy to use J to display symbols from the UNICODE set. After playing with UNICODE for a while I feel that there is a long way to go before UNICODE/U8 is really useful. Proper display of UNICODE is hit and miss between applications and computers. And it is not yet clear to me how one gets those that don't display to display.
My intent was to provide a tool for experimentation rather than kick off a debate. I used sigma as a sample UNICODE character as it was the first non-ASCII character I found that displayed on my computer from J. Pi was in the same list, so I added it. At that time I hadn't found any good APL characters, which is what I was really looking for. Really bad choice! And I'm still having trouble with APL characters, but will try the suggestions I have received. Thank those of you for those suggestions. Perhaps UNICODE will become well enough supported that soon J notation will not have to be restricted to the ASCII character set. Is that good or bad? Rather than debate the issue why not try some things and see how it looks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
