You may be correct on your guesses about the variable names but it's
hard to tell with only a single letter to go on.

Apart from the naming, the code is in many ways superior to the alternate
I proposed - I like the flexible argument format and its lack of external
subroutines
(my version uses subroutine "dow" - day of week - for which I did not
include the definition).

On the other hand, the APL-translated version uses fewer magic numbers - the
column widths, etc. are driven by the lengths of the data items in "days"
and
"mos" so these abbreviations could be changed without altering the code.

I do wonder about the repetition of the "magic" number vector "4 100 400" in
the standard version.

I've come to realize that I have my own versions of many things in the
standard libraries
but it's such a prospective chore to convert all my code to use the
standards that
I've been putting it off.

For the rest of variable choice, I strongly suspect the following:
a for "annum"
b for "bisextile"
m for "month"
h for "header"

I am not sure about r...

Re: [Jgeneral] Generating Calendar Days

Looking at the original code, I see that it does have a good piece of
explanation preceding it, so that addresses one of my criticisms.
