I'm happy with my Dell Precision (M90), not the least because of the large screen: 1920 x 1200 (awfully good for a laptop). Think about dual monitors - 2 x 17'' is a lot more area than 21'' and much cheaper. As much RAM and disk as you can afford but pay close attention to which OSs will really work with RAM over 4GB.
