I'm using a 2 Intel Xeon CPU HP Proliant server with 4GB ram running Windows 2000 Advance Server as an application server for J. :)
To FULLY use the capability of the server, I create a C++ windows service with creates an instance of J for each client request. I normally have 4 concurrent users but during the middle and the end of the month ... my concurrent users would peak at around 24 J instances. The instance would allocate normally allocate around 100MB of memory. Fortunately, each J instance would normally finish its job in less than 1 minute and release its resources. Of course, there are borderline cases where J allocated more than 500mb of memory and sometimes would linger around until it's done but I've never seen the machine brought down to its knees. The machine is pretty expensive but it's our production server so I was able to justify the cost and the machine is going 4 years old this year and we've yet to crash it. I am actually thinking of requesting a 64bit machine this coming capital expenditure (CAPEX) meeting so I will be able to allocate more than 1GB memory. :) So my suggestion? Get a 64bit Mac Pro. It's my dream desktop machine. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Roelof K Brouwer Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2008 12:21 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Jgeneral] dell precision t7400 I am looking at purchasing a dell precision t7400 with vista 64 operating system and quad core probably with the main purpose of developing and running J coded algorithms.
