When I (attempt to) launch jwd it often results in a message window, 'Failed to
get Java metrics.' When this occurs the J application fails to launch.
Sometimes the problem persists, sometimes a subsequent attempt has succeeded.
Rebooting has tended to fix the situation.
I have not had any problems using J through the command-line terminal.
The machine on which this occurs has J 6.02.023 on Ubuntu version 7.10. This is
a grossly underpowered system, and page-swapping delays may contribute to this
problem.
