Don't know if it was overkill but I just went and installed Sun Java 6 and had no problems at all on Ubuntu 7.10, ...32 bit.
I simply was not sure whether the default Java was going to do the trick! It would be really nice to know what is the minimum Java install rather than having multiple installs on my system.
