Yes the install very clean - basically just an unzip of the J602 directory to 
the desired place.
The install doesn't create the J-user folder. The J-user folder is only created 
when J is first run (if it is not found at the location specified by 
'<path>/j602/bin/profile.ijs' or '<path>/j602/bin/profilex.ijs').

What sort of install did you do?
As Devon suggests it could be a path issue. Have you tried using the full path 
to jconsole to start it?
