I've found this problem to be system specific. On some installations of OS X 10.6.4 (or earlier 10.6.x) the error occurs and on others (even with virtually identical hardware) it doesn't. The only way I've found to be sure to avoid the problem is to use the j.jar made available back in 2008 that has a slight delay during startup. I think that it's still accessible from
