However there is built in functionality that can help make it easier:
The BOXES_j_ noun contains three lists (options) for box drawing chars.
The boxdraw_j_ indexes into this noun to set the chars to use

Display BOXES_j_  (Boxes_j_ in J7) to see which line you prefer then use 
boxdraw_j_ to set it as the chars to use.
E.g. boxdraw_j_ 1  NB. use ASCII chars
