There are two downloads for the Mac, and I've just tried the same steps with the other one:

However, taking the hint, I've gone back to j701 (32-bit) and restarted both the server and the jijx browser page. Now studio > labs... works in j701 also !! I've no way of telling whether it was due to restarting j701, or running j64-701 successfully in-between.
