There are two downloads for the Mac, and I've just tried the same
steps with the other one:

   JVERSION
Engine: j701/2011-01-10/11:25 build: Feb 6 2011 16:16:29
Library: 7.01.043
Platform: Darwin 64
Installer: j701a_mac64.dmg

InstallPath: /Applications/j64-701

In this version I'm pleased to confirm that studio > labs... works just fine.

I didn't do that for j64-701 -- and it still worked.

However, taking the hint, I've gone back to j701 (32-bit) and
restarted both the server and the jijx browser page.
Now studio > labs... works in j701 also !!

I've no way of telling whether it was due to restarting j701, or
running j64-701 successfully in-between.
