mutilated misquotes
from Tim Wunder's 7 Apr 2005 classic prose
may follow:

" What do you mean by "dealing with each other?" Sorry, it seems to me

A good question, but the answer seems self-evident to me. 4x, you
and I are 'dealing with each other' now. Do we give each other
rational argument (persuasion) or some sort of force (flame,
intimidation, etc)? These are mutually exclusive.

" that in the case of men dealing with each other in interpersonal
" relationships, faith and reason are not mutually exclusive, nor does
" faith require force in such interpersonal interaction. Now if you mean
" the political dealings of men, you might have raised a point worthy of
" consideration. But I'd still tend to doubt your theory.

Well, I don't want you to take this as an 'appeal to authority' but,
to my regret, I am not able to claim ownership of either side of this
argument.

Again, 4x,
"I have therefore found it necessary to deny knowledge in order to
make room for faith." -Immanuel Kant, _Critique of Pure Reason_, see
    http://campus.northpark.edu/history/WebChron/WestCiv/Kant.CP.html.

There are many more arguments on both sides, and there may be much
better presentation and interpretation of Kant's elsewhere. The
argument tends to become a bit lengthy and thick at times.

"Fix reason firmly in her seat and call to her tribunal every fact,
every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God;
because, if there is one, he must more approve of the homage of
reason, than that of blindfolded fear." --Thomas Jefferson
