I see that as the largest danger of the internet, in general. I think of it as
the echo chamber effect. We tend to hang out online with communities that
agree with what we already believe. That tends to isolate us even further from
the diversity of opinions that is our country.
That is the main reason that I enjoy the political discussions on this list.
We have a fair diversity of viewpoint, with some from the international scene.
We have enough respect for each other that those viewpoints are not dismissed
out of hand. I hope that these "episodes" expand our own understanding of what
others truly believe. I look at is as an opportunity to refine my own
political views, and they have changed some.
