What's even more pathetic is the car culture (especially in California, which has more registered vehicles than any other US state by a wide margin). The street that I live on is a dead end, and has a total of 8 homes. Of the 8, all of them have at least two vehicles. 5 have at least 3 vehicles. 4 have at least 4 vehicles. 2 have at least 5 vehicles. 1 home owner has 7 cars (yes, *SEVEN*). I've got 2 (one that I use to get to/from work, and 1 that my wife uses). It seems to me that once you have more vehicles than you can park in your driveway+garage, that you have too many, but apparently not. It boggles my mind how these people can even afford the yearly state vehicle registration + auto insurance, which are again, among the highest in the US. Gas prices should be just the latest financial insult to these people's lives. > > It is just starting to sink in that smaller cars and alternative energy cars > might just be a good thing, the average person me included can be THICK.
