Yes, if it wasn't for the formatter, I would be Ok to only use POM. The new .idea/ format doesn't make things much better either, and I can see this becoming a real problem, real soon, as more and more people start helping out, and a combo of both Eclipse and IDEA are being used more than the past (perhaps some Netbeans folks too)... If the formatter issue could be solved in a generic way, then I am Ok to drop those files out of SVN.
