That's because you have this

in the CSS code. Comments in CSS are in the form

    /* ... */

To debug Exhibit, or web pages in general really, I'd strongly recommend 
Firefox + Firebug

    http://getfirebug.com/

You can turn on the options in Firebug to show CSS errors and Javascript 
warnings. For debugging, compared to Firefox + Firebug, IE 7 is like a 
browser built before the last ice age.
