IIRC there was a lot of talk a while ago on community about translations (probably a search in the email archives would be a good idea) but nothing really positive came out of it. one issue is that without a sufficiently large number of speakers of the language on the pmc, it's hard to demonstrate supervision of the content.


jakarta (and some other projects) use the offshore approach (links to unofficial translation sites) for translation of the websites. some sub-projects maintain their own translations of their documentation.

IMHO it would be a very good plan to create some kind of translation community for the ASF with some kind of official status (if only to help to answer questions such as this).
