Yes, the user should be able to make lists like that, but I would not do this
from this
"main window". This main window is in the first place only a way to navigate
to persons.
I would make a menu entry to do "requests", in such a way that the user can
build up a list
with the columns he/she wants, filtered in an advanced way, and sorted as
he/she wants.
Then we can add some wizards with predefined requests to make life easier for
the "normal"
user ... (predefined but still changeable with an "Advanced" button, and
somehow configurable
with some easy questions or with some previews from which the user can
select)

anyway: when we start implementing we should set up some plan,
where we define what we first want to achieve, and what in later versions.
This does not mean ofcourse that we shouldn't be aware of future
"improvements".
