Thank you (both) for your reply. So far this all gives me a lot of
insight!

hmmm.... what you say here worries me a bit.
Is it really /that/ easy to hack a net-connected Amiga? (compared to the
alternatives you mentioned)
Makes me doubt if I still want to use my Amiga (under AmigaOS) as the
internet gateway of my local network. Maybe I'll dress up the 1200 as a
Linux box than, that might be safer......

Nice, I had never seen this program before.......
In winipcfg the "DHCP server" field was empty! (I have no idea if that
is good or bad though ;-)
The rest of the fields was filled as I expected.

No login scripts. Nothing special.
When I signed up for the cablemodem all I got was a piece of paper that
said what settings the TCP protocol should have for windows. That is
what I entered and it worked right away.....

I will try the miami demo than and let you know if this helped....
btw. what /does/ the "Ariadne is now online" message mean.
Online for what?
Does it mean something like "I was able to initialize the Ariadne
driver"?

I am positive. It says so in the documentation that is lying in front
of me now. It also warns right after that note not to take advantage of
the fact that you have a static IP, I wonder what they mean by that ;-))
Thanks!
